Getting Started
What is VENT?
VENT is a place to vent anonymous to others—share thoughts and feelings using an assigned handle, not your real name. Post text or voice vents, react, comment, and explore the community without giving your legal name, email, or phone.
Do I need to create an account?
No email or password. When you finish onboarding, we assign you a handle like @venter_48291—you don't type or pick it. A random ID on your phone links to our servers so posts and settings work. We don't ask for your real name, email, or phone.
Is VENT really anonymous?
Yes — anonymous to others. We don't collect your legal name, email, phone, or GPS. We assign a handle like @venter_48291 (not chosen by you). A random ID is stored on your device and on our servers (not your Apple ID) so the app works and we can enforce safety rules. Others see your handle, not your real name. Optional product analytics can be turned off in Settings → Analytics. See our Privacy Policy.
Using VENT
How do I post a vent?
Tap the + button on the main feed. Type your thoughts (up to 280 characters), optionally choose a category, and tap Post. You can also switch to voice mode to record a voice vent.
What are categories?
When creating a vent, you can tag it with a mood or category — like angry, sad, anxious, grateful, heartbroken, and more. Categories help others find and relate to vents that match how they're feeling.
Can I record voice vents?
Yes. When creating a vent, tap "or record instead" to switch to voice mode. Record up to 20 seconds of audio and post it to the feed. Voice vents appear alongside text vents.
What are streaks and badges?
Your profile tracks your activity, including vent count and daily streaks. Posting consistently builds your streak. Badges are awarded for reaching engagement milestones.
Subscriptions
Is VENT free?
Yes. VENT is free to use with up to 3 vents per day and full access to the feed, comments, and reactions.
What does vent.so + include?
vent.so + removes the free daily post limit and unlocks subscriber features including custom themes, voice notes where available, sharing and download where the app supports those actions, and app passcode lock. The in-app paywall shows the current list. Choose monthly or yearly billing; yearly is priced below twelve times the monthly price where savings are shown in the subscription picker.
How do I subscribe?
Tap your profile, then look for the upgrade option. All payments are processed securely through Apple's App Store.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions, find VENT, and tap Cancel. Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period. You can also manage subscriptions from within the app's Settings.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund for any App Store purchase.
Will my subscription auto-renew?
Yes. Subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You will not be charged after cancellation takes effect.
Privacy & Safety
What data does VENT collect?
We collect your device identifier, assigned handle, the content you post (vents, comments, reactions), and—if you leave it on—basic usage analytics (such as app opens and posting activity). You can turn off product analytics in Settings → Analytics. Crash reporting for stability runs separately. We do not collect your legal name, email, location, contacts, or photos. Why does VENT need microphone access?
Only for recording voice vents. The microphone is only active when you explicitly tap record. VENT never records audio in the background.
Why does VENT ask for Face ID?
If you enable the optional App Lock feature, VENT uses Face ID (or Touch ID) to protect the app from others who might access your device. You can set a 6-digit passcode and optionally enable biometric unlock. This is entirely optional.
How do I block someone?
Tap and hold on any vent or comment, then select Block. Blocked users won't see your content and you won't see theirs. You can manage blocked users in Settings.
How do I report content?
Tap and hold on any vent, comment, or user profile, then select Report. Choose the reason for your report and submit. Our moderation team reviews reports promptly.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings > Delete Account in the app. Your profile, handle, vents, comments, and reactions are deleted from VENT and won't be shown to others. Complete removal from our systems may take up to 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy. If you have an active subscription, cancel it first through Apple ID > Subscriptions.
Troubleshooting
Why can't I post more vents?
Free users can post up to 3 vents per day. This limit resets daily. Upgrade to vent.so + for unlimited posting.
The app isn't loading content. What should I do?
Check your internet connection and try again. If the issue persists, close and reopen the app. You can also try force-quitting and relaunching. If problems continue, contact us at support@vent.so.
I was banned. What happened?
Accounts are banned for violating our Terms of Service, including harassment, hate speech, spam, or posting harmful content. If you believe this was an error, contact support@vent.so.
